if it is so u don't hav to purchase, except if u lose the recovery disc?
Answer:
If you purchase a laptop which has windows pre installed what you actually get is an OEM and you won't have to purchase a full version, this is the Wikipedia definition:
“Beside referring to manufacturers, OEM can be used as an adjective to describe software licensed only for a particular system. OEM software is bought alongside a system or hardware parts. Certain OEM programs have limited functionality, but most don’t. OEM software is often cheaper than the full versions but not as cheap as academic or student editions”
This usually means that the OS is built into the machine on a “hidden” partition and can't be transferred to another machine. The recovery disc doesn't have the OS on it and only restores the machine to the factory settings.
Answer:
if they offer to sell it without a system, you really don't need any recovery disks. But that is rare, they almost ALWAYS come with an OS on them, unless you build one. You can find cheap operating systems like XP Pro for about $64 dollars I've seen online. But to answer your question…YES, the operating system is the full version usually that comes with a system.
