Should I install Windows Service Pack 3 or wait?

One important thing is the fact that you should totally update the Operating System and ALL of the patches. If your machine is patched for the vulnerability on the HD, then YOU can’t get infected. It is the more proactive approach (patching your machine, keeping your software updated, using the most current firmware and drivers). AV is ALWAYS reactive!

Service Packs are rollups of all the previous Critical Patches. It is also a more stable install of them.

Unless the SP could possibly break some legacy software (such as an IE update breaking a web based data site), YOU should ALWAYS run Windows Update until nothing is left, update ALL of your software to the latest version, and make sure you have the latest firmware/drivers!

EDIT - I absolutely LOVE the people that state you dont need patches! ~smiling~ They end up being ONE MORE bot for someone to control!

Answer:
You should install service pack 3 if you’ve Windows XP. But if your personal has an AMD processor you may have problems, but I think they have that fixed. If you have an Intel processor install it ASAP.

Answer:
There’s no massive difference, unless you’re in an enterprise environment you won't need the security repairs at all. Also the SP3 it's not bug-free.

Answer:
Its safe, so you can go ahead and do it

Answer:
Do it now!
