I need help with my personal for sims 2?

Posted in Hardware on July 29th, 2008

My Sims 2 game goes very slow! The frames are too choppy, and it take 20 minutes to load (to do anything on it). And i know it has to do with my personal. My personal was bought in 04, so it is 4 years old (obviously). And i have 80% free space on it.

And it has

AMD Anthlon XP Processor.

1.8 GHz

256 Mb

DDR SDRAM memory

80GB

Ultra DMA hard drive

32 MB DDR SDRAM

intergrated ProSavage DDR

graphics with up to 32 MB shared video memory

And as for the Sims 2 games

I have: Sims 2, Nightlife, and Open for Business.

And that is about it

I don't know what i need, i was thinking i need a new graphic card but i am not sure. I don't know what the requiements are for the Sims 2.

Answer:
You need to check the requirements for Open for Business as that’s your latest expansion pack and the stipulations are greater than they’re for just the base game.

According to the official site the requirements are as follows:

In order to install and play The Sims 2 Open For Business you must have The Sims 2 installed and meet the hardware stipulations listed below:

Windows Vista, XP, ME, 98, or 2000 operating system.

1000 MHz (1 GHz) or faster processor.

256 MB or more RAM.

At least 1.5 GB of additional hard drive space.

Supported T&L-capable video card with at least 32 MB of video RAM.

Supported Video Cards:

ATI Radeon series 8500 or superior (7×00 models no longer supported), All-In-Wonder 8500, 9000, 9200, 9500, 9600, 9700, 9800, X300, X600, X700, X800, and X850.

NVIDIA GeForce 2, 2 GTS, 3, 3 Ti, 4, 4 Ti, 4200, 4600, and 4800.

NVIDIA GeForce MX 420, 440, and 460.

NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200, 55500, 5600, 5700, 5800, 5900, and 5950.

NVIDIA GeForce PCX 5300, and 5900.

NVIDIA GeForce 6200, 6600, and 6800.

NVIDIA Quadro, Quadro2, and Quadro4.

Intel Extreme Graphics 82865, 82915, and higher.

So just by reading the above you can see that you have the absolute bare minimum of RAM, your processor is ok even if it's old, and your graphics card is a huge massive problem. In fact you don't even have a real graphics card but integrated graphics, which is just a chip on the motherboard that’s not really designed for gaming. For more information about integrated graphics see here:http://www.modthesims2.com/wiki.php?titl…

Also, although you meet the minimum RAM requirements it doesn't necessarily mean your game will be smooth and not choppy as you’ve found out. As the answerer above said one gig is desirable for a game that plays smoothly and is very quick to load, especially if you’ve custom content in your game.

So basically what I would do in your position is back up my game(better to be safe than sorry!) and then take my hard drive down to the local personal repair shop and get it fitted with extra RAM and one of the above supported graphics cards.

Answer:
Well everything on your comp is simply outdated.. if you don't want to buy a new Computer try upgrading your ram..ram is a very easy/cheap upgrade which has the ideal effect on PC performance then graphics card would be the second thing i would do however finding a superior graphics card could be hard would need to know more bout the guts of your Personal computer… http://www.newegg.com/Store/Category.asp… use the memory configuration option on the left side to see whats good for your pc

Answer:
You’ve to increase RAM of your system as the game needs more memory. Upgrade your memory to 1gb. This will resolved your problem.

OR

The other option is to upgrade your CPU,Motherboard and Ram(DDR2). Take mobo having onboard nvidia graphics. If u upgrade your system then there will no need to change ur graphic card

Answer:
your computer is ancient. you need at least 512 for sims, but preferably a gig. also, your processor is worth about $1. get a new one. they're like 60-100 bucks for ones that will run sims smoothly. a graphics card would help too.
