Would it be easy to install a MoBo?

Posted in Desktops on July 16th, 2008

I want to install a ATX mobo that im getting pretty soon and I wanted to know how. Its going into a massive omnitech case, but there is a bar in the way. I can't get the old mobo out because of it and its also blocking some of the way for my video card. Is it possible to remove this bar? its an omnitech Pentinium 4 (not sure of the exact model)

Answer:
Most cases should grant you to remove the motherboard just by lowering the backplane (after removing all the casing).

Answer:
Only you can tell. Is the bar screwed into the chassis or is it welded into the chassis? You see, without being more descrptive, I’m not sure.

I don't know which omnitech case. Is this a server case?

If it is a server case, servers usually have a larger motherboard called EXTENDED ATX or eATX which is 12″ x 13″

Regular ATX is 12″ x 9.6″

So the holes drilled into the chassis to hold the motherboard in place may be different for the ATX from the eATX. So what I’m saying is, although you might be able to get the older mobo out, you might not be able to install the new mobo because the holes are not drilled in the new mobo in the same position that they’re in the case.

You should take a ruler and carefully measure the size of the current mobo and determine which kind of mobo you have.

But even so, if that metal bar is in the way, you’ll have to remove it somehow…and since I cannot see it, there’s no way for me to tell. You can come back and modify your question and tell whether or not the metal bar is screwedin or welded.
