Will this personal build/setup work well with dual BFG 8800GT Video Cards and the Motherboard/Processor?
Posted in Desktops on July 14th, 2008
Basically, I am building a gaming personal, but I’m new to PCI Express and dual graphics card. I just want to make sure that my motherboard that I selected allows simple transition for dual PCI Express graphics cards, and although the BFG 8800GT cards I have picked are pci express 2.0, will they run on normal pci express since the motherboard has 2 spots for it (normal not 2.0)
Here is what I have picked, and I want to make sure the motherboard and graphics cards (2) will work fine for insane gaming and if PCI Express 2.0 cards work on regular PCI Express boards.

Answer:
You can only do SLI on NVIDIA chipset motherboards. You can't do it on Intel chipset motherboards (Skulltrail is one exception, but it's very expensive).
So, that motherboard won't work. If you want to use two graphics cards on an Intel board using Crossfire and ATI cards then get an X38 or X48 board like an Asus P5E Deluxe.
If you want to do SLI, go to:
http://www.slizone.com/page/home.html
and check out the hardware requirements and recommended motherboards and look over the forums and docs.
For a power supply, a good single-rail 650w PSU, like a Corsair 650tx, should in theory handle 2 8800GT cards in SLI. Upgrading to a good 750w PSU (maybe a Corsair 750tx or Computer Power & Cooling model) wouldn't hurt, and the 750tx doesn't cost much more than the 650tx (especially if you buy it from someplace that has them cheap, like Provantage).
EDIT:
That motherboard should work. With regards to the power supply, for $149 and 850w, I assume you mean the Antec TPQ-850? That's an good 850w power supply for the price. You can see reviews of it at:

You can see reviews of the Corsair 750tx at:

Either one should work fine for you.
