Mac OS question?

Posted in Desktops on July 22nd, 2008

Okay first of all I’m not good with macs so my question is when I turn on my power mac g3 it has a face and a folder with a question mark on it and its blinking. Is there a way I have the ability to fix this. I think a file is corrupted or something but I might be wrong. If it is possible to fix it please explain. Also I’ve another internal hard drive if I need it. Thanks Waylon Cook

Answer:
The question mark at startup means the hardware can’t find a System folder with a useable System file in it to startup. You need the System discs to re-install the System file… or it is possible that the hard drive with the system on it is dead (a PowerPC G3 based Mac is pretty old).

You will need to begin up with the System disc in the CD drive so the Mac can boot from the CD.

Answer:
You probably don't have Mac OS X installed correctly. If you think you do, or you want to boot from the CD, hold the option key during startup, and choose the drive you want to boot from. If you HD doesn't show up, it is either not connected correctly, or Mac OS X isn't installed on it. Select the Mac OS X disk, and do an erase and install or archive and install to get it working.
