Is DDR1 socket the same with DDR2 ??

I’ve problems with my computer. I have one DDR1 512MB 400Mhz “Buffalo” and I wanted to add another one to make 1GB . I bought a new one , same as the one I already have and put there in the socket… everything worked well it fixed but when I begin personal a weird sound keeps going like a “beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee… and doesn't stop. Max RAM that my motherboard can hold is 2GB . I don't know , those two sockets for RAM memory could be different ?
Answer:
DDR RAM is not the same as DDR2 (nor DDR3) RAM and the different chip types can’t be used interchangeably. The sound you're hearing is either the system board notifying you that the installed RAM failed its check at startup, or otherwise a result of the error say caused by the incompatible RAM.
It's unlikely that your board has both DDR and DDR2 slots. In all probability, you bought incompatible RAM or one of the chips is (or has become) defective. Try each one separately, one at a time, in the original slot where the system worked, prior to your upgrade attempt. This should isolate which one is bad, if any.
If both work OK, it's possible that the second slot itself has a problem (e.g. defective or foreign particle causing a short, etc). If that's the case, you can try using a can of compressed air to blow any dirt out of the DIMM slot.

My computer crashed a couple of weeks ago and just to experiment (cause what do I’ve to lose right?) I took all my RAM out and a similar event to what your describing happened. And you have to be sure its the same type of RAM (not just DDR1/2) It has to be the same type (not brand ) as your other stick (mine is two 256MB of ram 3200mhz) maybe you didnt select the right mhz and thats whats causing it.
Hope it helps…(it should state on the stick what mhz it is)
Answer:
For computer nerds everywhere, that sound is the most bone-chilling sound. No, they're not compatible, you'd either have to look for DDR or get a new motherboard…
Answer:
Put the new stick in the first slot and nothing in the other slots. If it still beeps, that stick is bad or incompatible. DDR and DDR2 have the same number of pins, but will not work in each other's slots.
