Doesw anyone have a free motherboard?

Posted in Desktops on July 29th, 2008

I’ve an old personal that I purchased back in 2002, and now the motherboard has burned out. I dont have the means to get a whole new personal, but thought someone might have an old motherboard…just thought I'd give this a try first…

Answer:
You may not be able to get a compatible one for free. However, you'll need to post the model (usually stenciled on the MoBo in white) to find out if anyone has one similar. You'll also need to be familiar with alternative boards so find out what type (CPU type=socket, memory=DDR, DDR2, RDRAM, etc, front bus speed=400MHz, 800MHz, etc) you have so you don't try to put something in that isn't compatible with the rest of the parts you're trying to reuse.

Here in Portland we have a computer recycling place that sells parts for VERY cheap to fund recycling and community projects. You might have one in your area. Otherwise, check CraigsList (post a WANT ad there) or your local Goodwill (they sell donated hardware).

Hope that helps. Sorry you're in such a bind! Good luck.

Answer:
Well, I have one but I believe either it or the processor is burned out. It is an Abit NF7 with an AMD Athlon XP 2600 processor. Haven't had the desire to check to see if its the motherboard or the processor.

Answer:
Go to Craiglist…or FreeCycle.com

They will let you reach people in your area.

FreeCycle gives away things all the time…for free.

Answer:
I don’t know, I am terribly sorry.
