Defragmenting the computer?
Posted in Desktops on July 6th, 2008
I’ve three questions and i hope you can help me out:
1. What happens when you're trying to defrag the computer? Does the CPU have to be on all through the defragmenting process? (sorry, i'm not really good with these stuff)
2. How long should i expect the computer to defrag if i haven't added a lot of programs to the ones my personal originally had (plus some ms office files, av, antispyware and 2 games)?
3. Once the files have been defragmented, is there any chance that i might encounter a problem locating a file i want to open or any problems that i may not know of?
Answer:
First, check if you need to defragment, by clicking -each disk-tools-defragment-analyse.
When you analyse, if it states defragment, do it, other wise not neceesary.
When you defragment individual parts of file are put at one place, so your opening speed of files will be faster and increase in disc space. No there won’t be any loss or damage of files
Answer:
what defraging does is connect all yor docoments together, to be simple the info is broken in several pieces and takes a while to collect all the pieces, defraging recollects all the info again so info comes up faster. Yes the cpu has to be on the whole time
depends on how long or bad it is, it should take less than an hour could be more though, I defrag regularly so 20 mins for me. Doesn't matter how many programs you have.
its just as easy to find info as before.
Answer:
1.CPU is always on when the computer is on…that's what does all the processing.
2.Usually takes a few hours.
3.You won't notice any changes, except your computer will perform a tiny faster; the defragmenting arranges the files on your hard drive in a way that they're easier for the personal to locate.
Answer:
1) It's putting files back in order that has become fragmented. yes it needs to be on.
2) it depends on how fast your personal is, how many files it has to defrag, how long its been since you have done one. could take minutes, could take hours.
3) I dont think that should be a problem.
