Crysis Possible? -Revised-?
Posted in Desktops on July 29th, 2008
Here are the specs.
Celeron D 2.6GHz -I'm going to overclock it-
8600 GTS 256mb DDR2 -Once again when I get my fan I’ll overclock this too
Abit IB9 MoBo
2 GB DDR2 800 MHz ram
2 40GB IDE HDDs
So can I run Crysis w/o lag on this system?
Answer:
On the low settings. Crysis is the most cpu intensive game I've ever played. Frame rates go up 50% of the % you bump the cpu up. The tiny cache on that Celeron is gonna hamper you and that cache isn't gonna get any larger no matter how high you clock it. the 256MBs of DDR2 is gonna limit what resolutions you can run. If you're running Vista with DX10 the DX10 is going to demand more from the card. Can run it at DX9 in Vista by clicking start, games, then right-clicking on the Crysis Icon and choosing DX9. If you buy the game install only the 1.2 patch and not the 1.1 patch. The 1.1 is full of bugs. Might want to download and try the Crysis Demo.

It's a large download(over 1.8 GBs) so you may want to start downloading it on the way to bed then install it the next day. Make sure you put the latest drivers from Nividias website in.
I’ll tell you that the demo is nearly fraudulent. The game gets 3 times more demanding as the game progresses especially near the end. Common trick for those without huge gaming rigs is to turn their settings down at the back end of the game to keep the frame rates up. Also, there are 12 graphics setting in Crysis. You can tweak them for the best performance on your rig–can run a combo of all the settings-dont have to run them all at low med high or very high. Just be sure to set it up so your frame rates are good. Nomad can't be crawling around because sometimes, especially in the Delta level, he's gotta run–very fast.
Answer:
Well, you can only go so far with overclocking the CPU, but you have a decent video card and enough RAM.
Don't expect to run the game on high settings. Maybe medium to medium-low settings.
Crysis is a seriously overrated game. The main reason why it is so demanding is due to horrible programming.
Answer:
NO…Maybe at low settings…in win XP…with 1280×1024 resolution…it's a very demanding games and the 8600gt (256mb) is a weak card…The 512mb version would barely run crysis…hell the 8800gt i have has trouble at the 1680×1050 of my monitor…The game is a real bastard.
Answer:
Yes it will run.
I'm sure you already know that you have to adjust the settings accordingly so your system can handle it.
The no lag depends on your world wide web connection speed and its reliability.
Answer:
Yes it might run. Yes it will lag. Celeron sucks for gaming!
Answer:
Hinges on how sucessful your overclocking is.
