Can a DVD player be used as a Dvd Drive?

I’ve a standart DVD player, and I was wondering if I could use it as an external DVD drive for my HP Pavilion 513c computer on my computer. Can it? And if so, how?

nope, can't. there's no way to send command controls to the DVD. you can get the input and output sent to/from the dvd, but you can't control it from the computer. if you wanted to watch dvd's on your computer, you'd have to manually press play on the dvd to get it to run.
you can still hook them together, however. you just can't use it like a dvd drive.
